Make applesauce! I don't know why more people don't make this. It's actually pretty easy, alot cheaper than buying the store brands and very delicious. Remember the Farmhouse Rules motto: "Fresh is best..unless you're stressed." It really doesn't cause any stress to make. Think of all the wonderfulness you can enjoy when you have fresh applesauce to put in - pancakes, muffins. Put it on top of or served with pork chops.

Even if you daren't blessed to have apple trees growing in your backyard - although fresh right off the tree without any chemical or pesticides are the best - you can still make applesauce. Just pickup your favorite apples at the grocery store, wash really well and follow this easy recipe from The Pioneer Woman.
Prep Time: 15 Minutes (Yes, really!)
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Serves 12
You can make bigger batches and can them. Just get yourself some mason jars.
Ingredients
6 pounds of apples, peeled and cored. And cut into 8 slices.
** In full disclosure, I make this process easier using my apple peeler and corer (both bought on Amazon - not a plug - just sayin' because people will ask where I got them)

These make my job so much easier!
Back to the recipe
1 cup of apple juice or apple cider
Juice of 1 lemon
1/2 cup of brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon Cinnamon, More or less to taste
Optional ingredients: Nutmeg, Maple Syrup, Allspice, Butter
Preparation
Combine all ingredients in a large pot and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 25 minutes
Carefully puree in a food processor or blender (don't fill too full; split into two portions if needed) until smooth.
Store in the fridge and serve by itself, over pork chops, ice cream, over pancakes...or any place where applesauce is needed.
